Amy Paller received her undergraduate degree at Brown University in 1974 and her medical degree from Stanford University in 1978. Her pediatric and dermatology residencies were completed at Northwestern University. A Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of North Carolina followed. She quickly rose to become chair of the Department of Dermatology at Northwestern University where she leads one of the most comprehensive and extensive dermatology research and educational organizations in the world.
As chair of the Department of Dermatology, Dr. Paller has mentored and supported the careers of students, residents, and numerous faculty members all while advancing her goal of finding clinical solutions for pediatric and adult patients who are afflicted with skin disease. In this vein, Dr. Paller was named the winner of the 2022 Tripartite Legacy Faculty Prize in Translational Science and Education at Northwestern, an award that recognizes her longstanding commitment and support of translational research.
The pediatric dermatology fellowship program at Northwestern has trained more academic pediatric dermatologists than any other program in the U.S. and was the first in the country certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
Dr. Paller has given many invited lectureships around the world. She has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and her contributions to the field of pediatric dermatology are renowned. As director of pediatric dermatology clinical research, She has led more than 100 clinical trials. Dr. Paller has held leadership roles in various dermatological organizations, including serving as President of the International Society of Pediatric Dermatology and the Society for Investigative Dermatology. She is an eminent leader in pediatric dermatology and has been bestowed with multiple honors, including the Rothman Award from the SID, the Clarence S. Livingood, MD Memorial Award from the AAD, the Mentor of the Year Award/ Rose Hirschler Award/ Wilma Bergfield, MD Visioning and Leadership Award from the WDS, and the Founder’s Award from the Chicago Dermatological Society.
Amy Paller’s dedication to advancing dermatological research and patient care warrant her enshrinement in the Dermatology Hall of Fame.
